The project
Repurposing Marble Cutting Residues as a new recycled filler material for Low-Carbon Specialty Mortars
In the process of manufacturing ornamental stone, cutting and polishing generate two types of waste: offcuts and sludge composed of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and silica (SiO2). This waste is valuable for special mortars and concrete but improper disposal can lead to significant environmental and economic impacts. Our main goal is to develop a line of special mortars that incorporate waste from marble cutting in Macael, Spain, while also acting as a flexible membrane for waterproofing concrete.
