From Goals to Actions: A Scientific Publication on Sustainable Manufacturing

A publication from the greenSME project, “From goals to actions: Insights on how European SMEs plan and implement sustainability projects,” is available. This paper provides empirical results and valuable insights into the reality of green transformation projects within European SMEs. It addresses the intersection of advanced technologies, social innovation, and sustainability in the manufacturing sector.

This comprehensive paper dives deep into the practical challenges and successes of sustainable initiatives. It answers critical questions facing the industry today:

  • Which technologies and services are actually being implemented by SMEs?
  • What are the “trendy” technologies that are often discussed but rarely put into practice?
  • What are the real needs and challenges that SMEs face on the ground when trying to go green?
  • What can we learn from these experiences to better shape future sustainability initiatives in Europe?

These insights and more were presented at both the CIRP Life Cycle Engineering Conference in Manchester and the EU IndTech conference in Krakow, sparking important discussions on the future of sustainable manufacturing.

This publication is the result of a collaborative effort, with special thanks to co-authors Max Juraschek, Claudia Franzè, Clara Behrend, Jaione Agirre, Oscar Revilla Gutierrez, Gabriela Ventura Silva, and Christoph Herrmann. Supporting partners Luk Palmen, Ewa Dudzic-Widera, Marco Mangiantini, Fabrizio Fallarini, and Jon Núñez Barrenechea also played a key role in the project workshops.

The full paper is available here, and a video of the presentation can be streamed here (starting at 2:20).
